Podium for Danny van Dongen at Sebring racetrack with Praga R1 Turbo
Sebring (USA) / Zandvoort (NL), 15th of January 2014. Praga development driver Danny van Dongen and his teammate Josh Hurly have finished yet another raceweekend with the Praga R1 Turbo on the podium. The two ended their race at Sebring as third in their class, after a 90 minute endurance race of the ‘PBOC Winterfest’. “We were unlucky with the safety car, that cost us a better position in the race” according to Danny. Earlier this winter the two had been victorious at the ‘Miami 500’ on the Homestead racetrack.
The ‘Winterfest’ at Sebring honours its name of celebration. Five consecutive days of training and racing offer plenty of opportunity to the racing enthusiast. Danny van Dongen and Josh Hurley took part of the 90-minute endurance race, with a grid of more than 60 cars. Danny was the fastest driver during the qualifying. “Because there were so many cars on track, it was hard to find a lap without traffic. I managed to find one. The result was pole position”, said Danny. He was leading the race at the start. “I was involved in a serious battle for the lead with Ari Straus, who turned out to be the winner of the race”, Danny concludes his debut weekend at Sebring. When he gave the car to his teammate, luck was not on their side. “Every time the safety car was out on track, pit lane was closed. That cost us two places”. Danny and Josh finally ended as third in their class. The podium place marks the second success of the brand new Praga R1 Turbo. On the first of December both drivers won the ‘Miami 500’ on the track of Homestead (USA).
Danny looks back on a successful race weekend. “Our goals in Sebring were to work on the awareness of Praga in the US, to bring home a good result and to improve the car. We ticked all the boxes” Danny explained satisfied. “The US is an important market for Praga. We have managed again to be noticed and have contributed to the expansion of the brand in America. We have shown that the car is both fast and reliable. It is great to see that our results are spotted. We see that the interest for Praga is increasing.”
